Ship a TV: Know What Your TV Needs

First things first, you need to know a little about your television. It is likely to be one of the priciest gadgets you own, but it can also be one of the most fragile. You need to know what type of TV it is to be able to know how best to transport it.  

The first thing you need to know is whether you have an LED or plasma TV. These are two of the most common flat-screen devices. Though LEDs are more commonplace, it is still possible to find plasma TVs in homes that have an older TV. An easy way to tell the difference is that a plasma TV can generate a bit more heat when it is compared to an LED TV.

Both of these TVs ideally want to be shipped in an upright position. When they are laid flat, there is a chance that a bump somewhere could fracture and damage the screen.

Packing Materials to Pack a TV

Ideally, you should still have your TV’s original box in fairly good condition. This is the best thing to transport the TV in, but a heavy-duty cardboard box is also great. You also need to get your hands on some Styrofoam corner pieces for the corners of the screen. These are some of the most fragile points so you should protect them from any bumps.

Wrap everything well in foam wrap and make sure to pack the box out with polystyrene sheets or packing peanuts so the TV cannot shift around inside it. Make sure any cables or stands are also packed up and are put in the same box so they don’t become separated in transit. Finally, seal all sides and corners of the box with durable scotch and make sure the box is marked as fragile so anyone moving it will know to handle it carefully.
