ship appliancesMoving can be a headache, and one of the worst can come from trying to work out how you will get your appliances from A to B.

Bulky ones like fridges and washing machines can be difficult to move, but they are often so expensive that we don’t want to leave them behind.

Here are some of our best tips to help you successfully to ship your appliances, no matter how far they need to go.

Prepare for Transit

Before you can box up your appliance, you need to make sure that it is ready for transit. You need to disconnect it from any power or water lines and make sure the connections on both sides are secure and clean. Give the inside of the appliance a good clean and remove and separately pack all loose parts. This will prevent them from either being damaged or causing damage to your appliance.
Make sure everything is properly dry before you continue to pack up. You don’t want mold to grow inside there accidentally while it is moving. Finally, make sure that any doors or flaps are secured with non-adhesive tape.

Make Sure You Pack It Correctly

Add a layer of propylene foam to any stainless-steel surfaces you may have. This will help to protect it from scratches as it is being shipped.
You should also use bubble wrap or foam as much as you can to help protect the appliance. In particular, make sure the corners of the appliance are well-protected as these are places that can often get knocked.

If you don't know where to get the suitable packaging materials to protect your appliances, here are some useful links where you will certainly find what you are looking for:

Finally, most appliances should be shipped upright. Fridges, washing machines, and many other appliances will have an internal draining system. Find out from your courier if the appliance has been shipped on its side as this means that the appliance will need to be righted and left for 24 hours before you start using it once more. Any appliance without this internal draining system, like a dryer or an oven, can be safely shipped on its side.
